Kom Ombo Temple


The Temple of Kom Ombo is an ancient Egyptian temple located in the town of Kom Ombo in Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt. It is an unusual double temple, dedicated to two deities: the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus.

The temple was constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty, between 180 and 47 BCE. It was a significant religious site where the ancient Egyptians worshiped both Sobek and Horus. Due to the conflict between these two deities, the temple was built with separate spaces for each god.

The Temple of Kom Ombo offers visitors a unique insight into the religious beliefs and rituals of ancient Egypt. Its well-preserved architecture and elaborate reliefs depict various scenes from ancient Egyptian mythology and daily life. One of its notable features is the Nilometer, which was used to measure the water level of the Nile River.
