Luxor Temple
The Temple of Luxor is a massive ancient Egyptian temple located on the east bank of the Nile River, in the city of Luxor, Egypt. The temple was built during the New Kingdom period, around 1400 BCE, by Amenhotep III and later expanded by other pharaohs, including Ramses II. It is dedicated to the Theban triad of gods: Amun, Mut, and their son, Khonsu.
The Temple of Luxor served both as a religious and political center, where the pharaohs were crowned and other important rituals were held. The temple complex includes several sections and features, such as the Colonnade of Amenhotep III, the Courtyard of Ramses II, and the hypostyle hall, among others. The massive entrance pylon and the obelisks are also significant features of the temple.
Today, the Temple of Luxor is a major tourist attraction in Egypt, visited by millions of people each year. It has also been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
